BFBS – Logistics Assistant

BFBS is looking for a Logistics Assistant to work as part of our warehouse team in Aylesbury.

The role will involve usual warehouse duties such as driving, packing and freighting of goods, but you will also have the opportunity to learn about asset tracking and disposal, PAT testing, and testing broadcast equipment.

We are looking for somebody who is enthusiastic, a team player and who has a good attention to detail. You will be part of a small team with a good team ethic, having an opportunity to support interesting projects and the possibility of occasionally working alongside the British military.

This role is initially offered on a 1 year fixed term contract.

About the Company.

BFBS is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity with a 70-year heritage, providing Radio and TV to Britain’s Armed Forces and their families around the world. Broadcasting under the BFBS and Forces TV brands, its mission is to “serve those who serve”, by providing a vital welfare service which maintains efficiency and morale in all three Services. Operating under a long-term contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), BFBS’s worldwide network of 30 radio stations and 16 TV channels has studio centres in eight countries and a global transmission network covering 16 time zones. It is responsible for the entire end-to-end broadcast system, from programme acquisition and original production to end-user delivery to barracks, homes, and Navy vessels at sea. BFBS also operates several related armed forces welfare businesses including digital cinemas, a UK national TV station, UK national radio station, library, and production services.

About The Department.

The Technology Division has around 60 broadcast and IT engineers who are responsible for the design and operation of all BFBS’s technical operations, facilities, and capital projects. BFBS’s technology challenges are at the cutting edge of broadcast and IP technology, demanding a visionary approach, with practical experience and proven management ability. This role is a rare opportunity within the broadcast industry to work on truly innovative solutions which make a real difference to the lives of people who serve their country.

About The Role.

The role of Logistics Assistant is to work as part of the Logistics Team at the BFBS Logistics Centre in Aylesbury.

The Logistics Centre is responsible for freighting goods between BFBS locations and for storage, asset tracking, spares holding and arranging repairs and replacement of BFBS equipment. The Logistics Centre also plays an important role in maintaining the BFBS ISO:270001 accreditation, and there are specific duties to support the other departments in this work.

Person Specification

Key Responsibilities & Prerequisites.

This role will include duties such as,

Essential

  • Delivery and collection of items in the Logistics van.
  • Packing goods ready to be freighted.
  • Producing required customers and airway bill documentation.
  • Stock taking and accounting for items stored at the Logistics Centre.
  • Asset tracking of goods in and out of the Logistics Centre.
  • PAT testing of electrical items, as required.
  • Supporting colleagues when mounting project builds or providing training to third parties.
  • Operating warehouse equipment such as banding machines, forklift truck and industrial shredder.
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy warehouse space.

Desirable

Qualifications and Experience.

  • Full UK driving licence and ability and confidence to drive a large van.
  • Good level of spoken and written English.
  • Medically fit to carry out duties that include driving, lifting, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, bending
  • Attention to detail • Being able to follow written procedures.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, such as Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
  • Forklift licence or experience driving a forklift would be an advantage
  • Warehouse experience would be an advantage.
  • Experience dealing with customs paperwork would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will have to:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Be prepared to undergo successful security clearance.
