Cadets pull together to raise £1,000 for SSAFA Northern Ireland

Cadets from Strathearn School and Campbell College have raised £1,000 for the Northern Ireland branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity after taking part in a Land Rover pull held at Strathearn School.

The fundraising challenge was organised and led by six senior cadets from Strathearn School’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF), who were responsible for planning, promoting and running the event, with senior cadets from Campbell College also taking part.

The event brought together cadets and pupils from across the wider school community, who turned out in force to support those taking part. The £1,000 raised was donated to SSAFA Northern Ireland, which was selected by the cadets due to its role supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families across all three services.

As part of the visit, SSAFA Northern Ireland volunteer Gillian Bingham VR spoke to cadets about the charity’s history and its role in supporting the Armed Forces community in the region.

Robert Dunne MBE, Regional Chair for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, said:

“This was a fantastic effort by the senior cadets from both Strathearn School and Campbell College CCF contingents. The support from pupils across the school was tremendous, and it was great to see such enthusiasm for supporting SSAFA and the wider Armed Forces community. Well done to everyone involved.”

The cheque was formally presented to SSAFA Northern Ireland by senior non-commissioned officers from Strathearn School CCF. The event was supported by Strathearn Principal Nicola Connery and Lieutenant Louis Turner, Officer Commanding of Strathearn School CCF, who both played a key role in organising the challenge alongside the cadets.

SSAFA has been helping the Armed Forces community – regulars and reserves, serving or retired, and their families since 1885. To volunteer or fundraise for SSAFA, or to seek support, visit the SSAFA website and search for “SSAFA near me”.
