Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund – Head of Individual Grants

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Head of Individual Grants
Salary of circa £50k and benefits

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing welfare team at the RAF’s leading welfare charity. As a Head of Department (HoD), you will join welfare colleagues in enabling and delivering high quality support to those members of the RAF Family who are in need, and help to shape future policy in response to existing and emerging needs. Last year we helped over 60,000 people, out of an RAF Family of about 1.5 million. We do this in a wide variety of ways, and whilst we are moving towards having a blended approach with projects and programmes being an important part of the overall mix, individual grant giving has and will remain a hallmark of our work.

This role is well suited to those who have a strong grounding in individual casework and ideally grant giving, who can work with and have credibility amongst their staff when considering cases, especially from the serving RAF. We are ideally looking for an experienced manager, someone who is looking for greater impact and a wider portfolio. Proven leadership and management skills will be necessary to manage a team of mixed outputs. The successful applicant will demonstrate their ability to work effectively with HoD level colleagues, individually and through the Welfare Management Board, as well as a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. They will also be versatile and imaginative, be able to think strategically but have a good eye for detail and have a clear focus on delivery; the post also requires a high level of individual work/output not just managing others. Successful integration with the current team will be vital. Exceptional candidates without proven managerial experience will also be considered. Knowledge of safeguarding, data protection and wider social issues will be advantageous.

The closing date for applications is midnight Sunday 7th May 2017. For those called forward, suitability assessments will be held on Wednesday 17th May and those shortlisted called back for interview on Friday 26nd May 2017. Potential applicants are welcome to discuss the post with Paul Hughesdon, Director Welfare & Policy on 020 7307 3306 after 18th April.

To apply, please send by email your CV and a covering letter (three pages max) explaining how you meet the job profile to Pete Thompson, HR Manager, RAF Benevolent Fund; he is contactable at pete.thompson@rafbf.org.uk, and 020 7307 3431.

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is a Registered Charity (No. 1081009) which encourages applications from all sections of the community.
