White Ensign Association – Employment Consultant

Reports to:                       Director Employment, Communications and Finance

Based at:                           Home-based with travel as required

Contract Type:                 Full-time, permanent

Salary:                               £37,500 per annum

Pension:                            8% non-contributory employer pension

Leave:                                25 days annual leave, plus public holidays and a Christmas closure allowance

We have an exciting opportunity to join our expanding team at the White Ensign Association (WEA). As our Employment Consultant, you will play a vital role in guiding Service leavers and veterans toward fulfilling civilian careers.

Job Purpose

As a key member of the WEA team, the Employment Consultant will be the first point of contact for beneficiaries seeking career support. This full-time position supports Service leavers and veterans by providing personalised employment guidance, from job matching to mentoring. The Employment Consultant will work closely with the Director of Employment and the Corporate  Partnership  Manager to ensure access to high-quality opportunities and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact for all beneficiary employment enquiries.
  • Provide tailored employment support:
  • Guide beneficiaries through a WEA devised individual self-discovery process
  • Assist with CV/Cover letter/Interview skills training
  • Support individuals in using the WEA Career Compass Promote WEA employment services to Service leavers and veterans through events, materials, and direct engagement.
  • Prepare and send regular communications and updates to beneficiaries.
  • Maintain accurate beneficiary records in compliance with data protection policies.
  • Track vocational outcomes and ensure follow-up with all veterans. Undertake other tasks as needed to support the WEA Employment Services function.

Key Role Characteristics

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Empathy with and understanding of Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic Artificial Intelligence platforms.
  • Integrity and confidence in dealing with individuals at all levels.
  • Commitment to working with a charity and handling confidential matters with care.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Experience with CV writing and career coaching.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Strong mentoring and interviewing skills.
  • Prior military service or familiarity with Armed Forces terms and conditions.
  • Full UK driving licence.

The White Ensign Association (WEA) is an established all-ranks Royal Navy charity, providing personal help and guidance for all serving, former members and families of the regular and reserve Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Our core mission is to support successful transitions to civilian life through personal finance guidance, employment support and providing access to professional services advice.

This new full-time Employment Consultant role has been created to enhance our service offering and better support our beneficiaries in securing suitable civilian careers.
