Alabaré boosted by donation from Forces Support

Forces Support has partnered with Alabaré Homes for Veterans Cymru in donating £35,000 to fund a design and much needed refurbishment of a home supporting ex-Armed Forces Personnel who have been homeless.

The work starting in August, will involve creating a new access walkway to the property, heating, redecoration and flooring and kitchen in a home in Colwyn Bay. The property houses individuals who have Served in the British Armed Forces and through a variety of reasons, have become homeless after leaving Service. The Home provides an opportunity for the Veterans, of all ages, to transition from Military life into the community, creating opportunities for them to transfer the valuable Military skills into “civvie street”, deal with issues they may face around poor mental health, and provide necessary supported accommodation and space for them to re-adjust.

The donation and partnership with Forces Support will aid these Veterans through providing a positive and homely environment where they are able to feel safe and valued and ensure that they are able to call this place home.

The donation was provided by Forces Support from their Charity Shops and through their foundation. Forces Support was launched in March 2010, with an aim to create a national network of Forces Support outlets to raise the funds needed to run the practical support project Nationally.

Alabaré Christian Care and Support is a Charity set up in 1991 to support vulnerable, homeless and marginalised people. It has Homes for Veterans across Wales and the South-West of England providing homes bespoke to the needs of ex-Armed Forces Personnel. The charity helps people transform their lives, providing accommodation and helping them gain the skills, confidence and opportunities to live a fulfilled life.
