Full job description

We seek a dynamic and passionate communications specialist to join our fundraising and marketing team. As a Senior Press and Media Officer you will be based in Salisbury but be able to travel to PR opportunities across our region at potentially short notice. You will play a pivotal role and be responsible for crafting and sharing the compelling stories of Alabaré and showcasing the transformational journeys of the many homeless and vulnerable individuals we support. The position involves leading efforts to increase awareness of Alabaré, our services, and our fundraising activities through various media channels, including press, radio, social media and national publications.

This post is 37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend to cover an event.

In return for this, we are looking for someone who has

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent written communication and IT skills and previous experience in a similar role.
  • Ability and confidence to successfully pitch stories both nationally and regionally.
  • Be able to present a portfolio (or equivalent) of successful press coverage achieved.
  • Excellent Knowledge of GDPR and the law around sharing personal data.
  • Knowledge of Code of Fundraising Practice and legislation relating to fundraising.
  • Able to create paid for digital advertisements.
  • Ability to travel and represent Alabaré at external meetings.
  • Ability to work unsupervised using own initiative whilst also being a good team player.
  • Proven experience in delivering media interviews and representing organisations in the media.
  • Experience in delivering media training to others.
  • Experience in creating effective digital marketing content and campaigns.
  • Experience in using media databases to develop new relationships within the press.
  • Experience in working with internal and external contacts at all levels and maintaining relationships.
  • Experience in working to tight deadlines.
  • Experience in charity/not-for-profit/fundraising would be an advantage
  • Car driver essential with access to a road worthy vehicle and business insurance.

Alabaré are committed to ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all our service users, this includes developing, implementing and maintaining effective recruitment policies and procedures to promote the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Before commencing employment, the HR Department undertakes pre-employment checks on all applicants who have been offered a job with the Charity. These checks include an Enhanced DBS, which will be renewed every 3 years, the right to live and work in the UK, as well as two satisfactory references.

All staff will be required to complete training on Safeguarding Adults and Young People within their first week of employment.
