An Employers’ Guide to Hiring Veterans

The Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA) in Cabinet Office has worked with leading domestic and international employers across the UK to launch a new Employers’ Guide to Hiring Veterans featuring best practice, case studies, and practical steps that any business can take to bring veterans and their families into their workforce.

The guide is designed not only for businesses who are not currently employing veterans, but also for those who are and want to make further progress in their activities and status as a leading UK veterans’ employer.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

Thousands of businesses such as Amazon, Barclays, Deloitte, every UK local authorities and thousands of SMEs across the country have not only signed the Armed Forces Covenant, but also joined the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. Many businesses are also benefiting from the 12-month National Insurance contribution holiday available to those employing a veteran in their first civilian position after service.
