Annual duck race raises over £700 for Blind Veterans UK

A community duck race held on Christmas Day in Coventry has raised over £700 for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

For more than 20 years, a group of neighbours have marked Christmas Day with their annual duck race. This year the race was dedicated to their neighbour and friend Harold who died in 2025 and had been supported by Blind Veterans UK since 2018.

Organiser of the event, Andy Taylor, said:

“Harold was a keen competitor of the duck race over the years, so it felt like a fitting tribute to dedicate this year’s race to him. He was such a lovely man who we greatly miss but he will never be forgotten.”

The duck race has grown over the years and around 40 friends and neighbours now take part. Over the last ten years, the race has raised money for various charities and this year in Harold’s memory the residents chose to support Blind Veterans UK.

If you would like to organise your own fundraiser for Blind Veterans UK in 2026, you can visit the charity’s website to find out more: blindveterans.org.uk/ownthing

Blind Veterans UK supports thousands of blind veterans across the country, but knows there are many thousands more who still need its support to rebuild their lives after sight loss.

If you, or someone you know, served in the Armed Forces, including National Service, and are now struggling with sight loss, then please get in touch. Call 0800 389 7979 or visit blindveterans.org.uk/gethelp
