Volunteers from SSAFA Northamptonshire have delivered Christmas hampers this December, to spread festive joy to veterans and serving families across the county.
After a busy year of fundraising for the local Armed Forces community, the SSAFA Northamptonshire volunteers wanted to directly give something back to those in need by adding some festive sparkle to their celebrations and ease the pressure during what is, for many, a challenging and expensive time of year.
With almost £4,500 invested in the pilot Christmas hampers donations, the 20 recipients received festive treats alongside gift cards for their preferred supermarket retailers, giving them the chance to use them in the way that best suits their needs this festive season.
Gareth Bull, Branch Chair for SSAFA Northamptonshire, commented:
“The response to the Christmas hampers has been truly overwhelming. The gratitude and heartfelt messages we’ve received reaffirm exactly why we volunteer. This initiative has reminded us that even small gestures can make a meaningful difference, especially during the festive period.“I want to thank my amazing team of volunteers who have contributed so much of their own time throughout the year – they make initiatives like this possible. We remain committed to supporting our Armed Forces community in every way we can all year round.”
One recipient of a 2025 hamper said:
“We are immensely grateful for this kind gesture. It will go a long way to make Christmas even better, especially for the kids.”
