Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust – Communications Officer (0.6 FTE)

Summary of role:

The main objective of the role is to support the delivery of effective communications in support of the work of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust; and its objective of supporting the Armed Forces community through funding real change. Working with the Director of Policy and Communications, the postholder will look after the Trust’s digital marketing; focusing particularly on the Trust’s social media channels; ensuring that there is relevant and engaging content for audiences.  The post holder will have an interest in content curation and in producing high quality digital assets.  They will help to ensure that learning from projects that the Trust has supported is accessible to a range of audiences.

Candidates with communications and digital marketing experience gained in any sector (including through voluntary work) are welcome to apply.  This role is part of a job share with another Communications Officer; with both post holders working a 0.6 FTE role. The successful candidate would ideally work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

This role will support our work to ensure that our funding makes a real difference to the lives of Armed Forces communities in the UK. You should have a clear interest in Armed Forces communities; and in sharing information about the Trust; the projects we support, and the difference that these projects make to the lives of those who are serving, those who have served, and to Armed Forces families.

This role will be based at the postholders home, with some limited travel to London. The small policy and communications team area all home based; and there would be a requirement to work collaboratively using suitable technology.

Part time postholder sought.

Salary: £28,000- £33,000 FTE dependent on experience.

Main Duties:

  • Write and publish engaging content and news stories regarding the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust for digital channels
  • Develop and publish infographics and short videos
  • Manage the Trust’s social media channels; and produce reports on audience engagement
  • Work with the grants team to be responsive to trends in enquires, and push effective content to ensure that enquiries can access the right information, first time, through digital channels
  • Set text for publications. You can find examples of our application materials here and an example of a report here
  • Develop a case study and photo library
  • Organise events and webinar sessions for applicants, grant holders and stakeholders
  • Work as part of a team to review and implement improvements to the website to enhance the customer experience
  • Develop links with communications staff within key stakeholders to improve how we share messaging
  • Develop communications and distribution links in geographic areas and communities of interest that are currently underrepresented
  • Work with colleagues to deliver effective communications campaigns
  • Manage own workloads and collaborate with colleagues on shared tasks and projects, to ensure milestones and targets are met.

Person specification

Essential:

  • At least 2 years’ experience of relevant communications work in any setting (this can include relevant experience through volunteering work)
  • Ability to produce, and review documents and webpages, accurately and consistently
  • Knowledge of digital marketing and experience in managing social media accounts
  • Ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and team communication skills
  • Excellent research and drafting skills, including the ability to assimilate and
  • Proven project management skills
  • Experience of preparing and presenting written reports to colleagues and seniors.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to different audiences
  • Adaptable and determined with a positive and proactive attitude and a capacity to think creatively and act pragmatically.
  • Excellent MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and experience of using databases.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a dynamic environment and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Able to consider a range of viewpoints and to develop and communicate the Trust’s agreed positions on these.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team; and collaborate using technology packages such as Microsoft Teams.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience of websites and website content management applications
  • Knowledge of the Armed Forces Community
