Job description :

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Council’s regional Armed Forces Outreach Service (AFOS) in Housing Services as we seek to appoint a full time Armed Forces Co-ordinator Post to manage and develop the regional Armed Forces Outreach Service.

This post will be based in Gateshead but will manage staff in Gateshead and across the region including Newcastle, Northumberland and Durham working as part of the regional AFOS which is a local authority partnership.

In addition to managing staff, you will work with the Supported Housing Manager to develop the service across the region and may also be required to undertake some case work so we would require the postholder to have knowledge of Data Protection issues.

It is essential for this post that you have developed excellent organisational and time management skills with experience of developing services and projects and possess IT skills.

Public speaking is a requirement of this role so effective communications skills are also required for this role.

As you will be managing staff we will expect the postholder to be able to demonstrate experience of supervising staff, experience of effective negotiation skills and dealing with people in potentially difficult situations.

As a co-ordinator of a regional Armed Forces Outreach Service, we would require the successful postholder to have knowledge of the current issues facing veterans and the housing related issues with knowledge of the services available to the Armed Forces Community.

We would welcome applications from members of the Armed Forces Community.

For an informal discussion on the post, please contact Abby Smith on 0191 4335311 between Monday – Wednesday.
