Would you like to be part of a highly skilled, friendly and supportive team that works to advise non-UK serving personnel and their families with immigration issues? Why not apply to become the next member of AFF’s Foreign & Commonwealth team?
As an AFF Foreign & Commonwealth Advisor, you will make complex advice on immigration issues accessible to serving personnel, family members and service leavers. You will be able to explain immigration issues in a clear and easy to understand way, verbally and in written format to stakeholders, Government departments and other organisations/ charities.
If you have an understanding and knowledge of Armed Forces life and the immigration challenges the non-UK community faces, with good interpersonal and home working skills, then AFF needs you!
About the role
This role offers the opportunity to join AFF’s Foreign & Commonwealth team, which provides qualified and expert immigration advice to non-UK serving personnel and their family members.
Given the expert and qualified nature of the advice provided by the F&C team, it would be desirable for the successful candidate to already be an Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) Level 1 qualified immigration adviser, with knowledge and understanding of Appendix HM Armed Forces of the Home Office Immigration Rules. If you don’t have the qualification there will be – for the right candidate – the opportunity to study for and complete the IAA Level 1 accreditation, supported by AFF.
You’ll be the first point of contact for non-UK serving personnel and their families seeking immigration advice, enabling them to make decisions with clarity and confidence. You will provide support and advice to them and will guide them through their immigration journey from visas to enter the UK to obtaining citizenship.
You will support non-UK serving personnel and their families to access immigration information by ensuring that the information on the Foreign & Commonwealth pages of the AFF website is kept up-to-date and liaising regularly with the Communications team to make any changes.
You will play a critical part in ensuring the specialist has the evidence to raise emerging issues with stakeholders, decision and policy makers on immigration matters.
The post is 35 hours per week and a permanent home-based role (UK only). Unfortunately, due to the difficulties obtaining employer’s liability insurance overseas, it is not possible to offer this role to a candidate based outside the UK.
The annual unqualified training salary will be £25,000 and would increase on successful completion of the IAA Level 1 qualification, which you would need to complete within 12 months of appointment. Further salary enhancements are available if qualification to Level 2 accreditation was achieved.
If you are already IAA qualified, please contact Tracy Connolly at recruitment@aff.org.uk to discuss the role responsibilities and remuneration.
What we are looking for
Ideally, you’ll already be a Level 1 qualified IAA immigration advisor, however training would be available for the right candidate. You’ll have understanding and knowledge of UK immigration issues, and also the impact of Service life on non-UK serving personnel and their families.
You’ll be confident helping non-UK serving personnel and family members with their immigration enquiries, with empathetic listening skills and the ability to provide clear information and advice. You will be skilled in prioritising your workload and using your time effectively to manage multiple enquiries or areas of work. You will have previous experience working in a home-based role.
We would particularly welcome candidates who have prior knowledge and understanding of non-UK issues that affect serving personnel and their families. We would also welcome applications from those with experience of engagement in the non-UK community.
A full list of the skills and experience we are looking for can be found in the Job Description.
AFF encourages applications from all sections of the community.
