Army Families Federation – Governance Manager

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Would you like to be part of a professional and highly engaged team that works to support Army families? Can you quickly build effective relationships to work confidently with, and provide trusted and reliable support to, a Trustee Board and Executive Management Board? Would you like the opportunity to shape and develop a new role?

This is a new role within AFF, whose primary purpose is the co-ordination and management of the activities of the Trustee Board and sub-committees, and the Executive Management Board. Working to the Chief Executive, the role will also manage the formation of the AFF business plan, monitor and report on its delivery and develop a robust governance function within AFF.

This post is a fixed-term two-year contract of 25 hours per week (based on a FTE of 37.5 hours per week). Unfortunately, due to the difficulties obtaining employer’s liability insurance overseas, it is not possible to offer this role to a candidate based outside the UK. There is no guarantee that the post will continue beyond September 2025.

You do not need to have direct experience of charity governance, but must have a background that includes experience of organising the work of boards or committees, and a willingness to learn within the governance field, and to lead on developing AFF’s governance function.

You will be efficient and confident in minute-taking, good at forward planning and effective in co-ordinating actions required from Trustees and AFF team members.

You’ll be a confident self-starter with good organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage and meet deadlines. You will also be skilled in prioritising your workload and using your time effectively to be able to manage multiple areas of work. As this is a stand-alone role, you will be self-motivated and able to use your initiative to undertake work.

You may or may not have experience of the Armed Forces, but you will have an interest in the impact of Service life on Army families, as that is at the heart of all we do.

A full list of the skills and experience we are looking for can be found in the Job Description.
