Army Families Federation – Overseas Assistants

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Our aim at AFF is to give Army families a voice. We listen to what they have to say and provide information and guidance that supports all aspects of family life both in the UK and overseas. And, as an independent charity, we work hard to make sure that the voice of Army families is heard by policy makers and service providers. If you have an understanding and knowledge of Army life and the challenges families face, with good listening and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a remote team, then AFF needs you!

About the roles

The Overseas Assistants will support the work of the Overseas Manager, in providing a first point of contact for enquiries from Army personnel and families based in overseas locations. They will engage virtually with personnel and families,  the local chain of command and key stakeholders in the overseas locations.

They will build stakeholder networks in overseas locations, identify emerging issues and keep published overseas information up to date.

The posts are part-time (20 – 25 hours a week). Hours to be worked flexibly to occasionally covering different time zones.

These are permanent home-based roles (UK only*).

The annual salary will be £12,000-£15,000 per annum.

All staff are required to attend staff training, usually held in the South East once a year, involving overnight stays and travel.

*Unfortunately, as a small independent charity, the additional cost of employing someone outside the UK, and particularly obtaining employer’s liability insurance, mean that it is not possible to offer this role to a non-UK based candidate. Should your serving person have a confirmed Assignment Order for the UK to start prior to 1 October 22, please do apply and note this on your application.

What we are looking for

The successful candidates will have an understanding of the impact of Service life on Army personnel and their families and a keen interest in the welfare and quality of life of Army families, particularly those families based overseas.

They will be confident helping families with their enquiries, with first-rate listening skills and the ability to provide clear information and advice.  They will be skilled in prioritising their workload and using their time effectively to be able to manage multiple enquiries or areas of work.  Given these are home-based roles, they will be self-motivated and able to use their initiative to undertake work.

They will be effective at building relationships and confident in liaising with the chain of command to raise and address families’ issues.

The candidates will be effective team players but also confident deputising for others in the overseas team.

A full list of the skills and experience we are looking for can be found in the Job Description.
