Army Families Federation – Trustee

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

The Army Families Federation (AFF) has a Trustee vacancy, and is looking for someone with professional and ideally Army life experience to join the Board. The ideal candidate would have financial accounting experience, if this has been gained within the charity sector it would be beneficial however not essential.

In addition to this vacancy over the course of 2019 due to trustee term limits we will have 2 further vacancies and would welcome speaking to you if;

  • you have previous trustee experience and/or Army life experience

or

  • you are a spouse/ partner of a serving soldier (this would provide greater exposure for the board to family life as an Other Rank)

About the role

Trustees are volunteers who act collectively to govern the organisation. This includes developing the overall strategy for AFF and ensuring an operating plan is produced that enables AFF to meet its objectives.

Trustees also work to ensure that there is sound financial management and that employees are properly managed. Trustees are not involved in the management of the charity.

AFF Trustees follow the good practice guide of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO).

In practice, much of the work of Trustees is conducted at the 3-4 meetings held each year, usually around Andover or London (some of which will require an overnight stay). Attendance at Trustee meetings is crucial. Preparation in advance of meetings will also be required. Between meetings, Trustees will have reading and may also be asked to contribute to individual projects and sit on one of the sub committees.

In addition, attendance is expected, where possible, at twice yearly staff training events (usually held in Basingstoke).

A role description can be found here.
