The Blesma team has raised £17,000 by taking part in this year’s London Marathon, showing strong support for the charity’s mission to assist limbless and injured veterans.
Among the standout participants was Mark Howard, a 54-year-old veteran of the Life Guards Regiment. Mark, who was injured in a training accident during service and is a wheelchair user, has raised more than £500,000 for charities over the last decade.
“I was introduced to Blesma by another member and they have done so much that it is great to be able fundraise for them,” said Mark.
“I hope me doing these activities will encourage people to go out and get active and if inspire one person then it’s all worth it.”
Another participant, Camilla, also took part in the race to support Blesma and honour the charity’s impact on its members.
“Through Mike [her friend], I have heard about and seen the help which Blesma has given him, to improve his life. What I have found so inspirational, is that not only does Mike benefit from Blesma, but such is his love for the charity, that he has also given so much back to Blesma over the years. It is because of this, and Mike’s passion for Blesma, that I ran the London Marathon to acknowledge both Blesma’s incredible work and to champion Mike and the impressive fundraising he has carried out for Blesma and other armed forces charities since his injury”.
The funds raised through the marathon will enable Blesma to continue its essential work supporting veterans, fostering a sense of community, purpose, and independence among those who have served.
