Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Benevolent Fund – Trustee and Chair Designate (two roles)

Unremunerated voluntary position

12-15 days / year (5 x board meetings, events and ad hoc work and support)

We would like to invite applications for 2 vital Trustee positions on our board of trustees

  1. Chair Designate (Trustee). The existing Chair will be retiring soon having served 9 years on the board
  2. Trustee

We are ideally looking for experience at executive and non-executive board level especially with strategy development,  implementation and delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to an ambitious and well-funded charity.

The Benevolent Fund is the independent charitable arm of the MOD run Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC – aka the “Unit”) – it operates beyond the limitations of the public purse by providing specialist equipment, grants, staff initiatives and occupational, social and adventurous activities to enhance and optimise DMRC’s rehabilitation outcomes.

The DMRC Benevolent Fund exists to provide essential welfare and social rehabilitation opportunities to service personnel who find themselves recovering from life changing injuries and illness whilst in active service. By offering support to staff and welfare provision to patients we aim to complement and enhance medical interventions to support the achievement of optimal outcomes for patients.

The rewards from working with the DMRC Ben Fund are immense – we work on the front line of defence rehabilitation, and we are always busy. Our Trustees and committee members are a passionate group of volunteers, drawn from military and civilian backgrounds. Moreover, relationships between Unit, Board, volunteers and beneficiaries are very strong.

If you have any queries or would like to speak to someone about this role, please contact Matt Perkins, Chair of Board of Trustees on matt.perkins@dmrcbenfund.org.uk to organise an informal discussion.

Previous military experience is not required although we are keen to receive applications from former patients and military personnel who have had a life-changing illness or injury or support those that have. We are also excited to accept applications from the corporate world, to expand our reach into business sectors for enduring support in our growth.

We are committed to increasing the diversity of our teams in all parts of the charity. This means we are particularly interested in applications from women, people from ethnic minority groups and those with different accessibility needs.

Deadline: 22 June 2025

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter telling us why you wish to work with the DMRC Benevolent fund and where your expertise would aid our charity.
