Job Description
This is a full time, fixed term, remote contract until December 2023, locating within Winchester, or within Hampshire/Surrey (With local travel expected)
The Forces Employment Charity are leading on an exciting initiative created by Enterprise M3 (Enterprise M3) as part of plans to lead economic recovery in the M3 region by growing a skilled population in digital enterprises (including medical technology and gaming), sustainable construction and low carbon, and space and satellite industries.
The Enterprise M3 Armed Forces Veterans and Families Programme supports Armed Forces Families including, veterans, their partners and spouses, and for the first time, service children (young people) up to age 24. Working closely with schools/colleges in the region Forces Employment Charity provide a combination of bespoke, unlimited, one to one career guidance and coaching support and training and apprenticeship opportunities to help young people from service backgrounds to develop their confidence and skills and achieve a positive outcome.
Principal Responsibilities:
This role will focus on supporting young people into further education and employment, including apprenticeships and training, with some support to Veterans and Spouses/Partners.
Reporting to the Enterprise M3 Programme Manager, you will provide direct and digital 1:1 and group support to young people from Armed Forces Families, build on their skills, social, personal development and confidence, to broaden their career opportunities.
You’ll build quality relationships with young people, explore interests and options, and create and deliver on employment support plans with meaningful experiences and activities. Build rapport with young people and mentor them to overcome any employment barriers that may be limiting them in making career decisions or find work. Support their pathway to employment and foster partnerships in the local community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide career advice and guidance to dependants of Armed Forces families throughout their journey into employment or training following the Forces Employment Charity Case Management Guidance and Work Instructions.
- Provide encouragement to develop employability skills, e.g. CVs and interview coaching, and help them search and apply for jobs, apprenticeships, courses or training opportunities
- Support and develop a young person’s personal development skills, such as goal setting and time management.
- Comply with all Forces Employment Charity Safeguarding policies and work instructions.
- Work proactively within the Enterprise M3 team.
- Work with delivery partners and external stakeholders.
- Assist the Enterprise M3 Employer Liaison to generate careers events and employment opportunities for young people within the Enterprise M3 region.
- Work alongside the Education and Skills Liaison to identify new opportunities to engage with young people.
- Attend and support Careers Events, group employability workshops within schools/colleges, Youth and local community employment events (sometimes these fall outside normal 9-5 hours).
Essential Competencies:
- Experience of building relationships with young people in a youth work or education setting.
- Empathy with Armed Forces community and an understanding of the challenges faced by them and their families in finding fulfilling and sustainable employment.
- Understanding of the employment and education market, including recruitment, work-based learning, and vocational training.
- Evidence of achieving KPIs through self-motivation and initiative.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Evidenced ability to provide effective case-working support to individuals to achieve agreed aims.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills and experience of using a CRM (Salesforce ideally).
- Clean driving licence and exclusive use of a car; travel required throughout Enterprise M3 region (Hampshire and Surrey) to deliver employability activities and support caseload.
Desirable Competences:
- NVQ L4 in Advice, Information and Guidance
