Gloucestershire retirement village supporting military charity this Remembrance

The residents of a retirement village in Gloucestershire are raising money this Remembrance for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

St Oswald’s Retirement Village in Gloucester are hosting a Remembrance event on 11 November consisting of a two-course meal with musical performances including a group of veterans playing The Last Post.

Lifestyle Manager for the Extra Care Charitable Trust, which runs St Oswald’s Retirement Village, Sam Hopkins, said:

“Every year we select a different military charity. This year, we went for Blind Veterans UK as we were struck by the amazing, life-changing work the charity does to support those who have experienced sight-loss.

“Supporting deserving charities that make a real and tangible difference to the lives of veterans means so much to our community hence why we get such a good number of people attending the event. The St Oswald’s community is centred around compassion and desire to make a difference through fundraising to aid those less fortunate in our society.”

Many of the charity’s supporters like St Oswald’s Retirement Village are planning events between 20 October and 12 November to raise awareness of the importance of Remembrance while also fundraising to support blind veterans.

Blind Veterans UK supports thousands of blind veterans across the country, but knows there are many thousands more who still need its support to rebuild their lives after sight loss.
