Greenwich Hospital and The Naval Children’s Charity launch national online tutoring pilot to support serving Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary Families

Greenwich Hospital, in partnership with The Naval Children’s Charity (NCC), is launching a major new pilot initiative designed to strengthen educational support for children and young people from serving Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary families.

Go Learn will provide high‑quality, non‑means‑tested, one‑to‑one online tutoring to secondary school aged students at key educational stages – GCSEs, A Levels, Scottish Nationals and Highers, also to students with additional needs. The 18‑month pilot aims to assess the demand and evaluate the impact of structured, personalised tutoring in helping children of RN, RM and RFA families achieve their academic potential.

Following a rigorous tender process, MVA Tutors was selected as the delivery partner for the pilot, based on its strong tutor network across the UK and award‑winning online provision.

A Strengthened Pathway of Support for RN and RFA Families

To ensure families receive timely, informed and holistic support, The NCC – whose existing triage team already delivers frontline assistance to Naval families – will lead the initial assessment process for all enquiries.

The NCC’s Triage Caseworker (Education) will serve as the first point of contact for families, assessing eligibility, identifying educational and pastoral needs, and ensuring appropriate referrals to the tutoring provider.

Deirdre Mills, Director, Greenwich Hospital, added:

“This pilot represents a significant step in ensuring equitable access to academic support for the children of serving RN, RM and RFA families. We are proud to partner with The NCC, whose expertise in casework and family support gives the project a strong foundation from the start.”

Clare Scherer, Chief Executive of The Naval Children’s Charity, said:

“Our triage team is known for its experienced, vital role in supporting RN, RM and RFA families facing a wide range of challenges. Providing the first point of contact within this team ensures each family receives a high‑quality, holistic assessment—particularly crucial for children with additional needs, those out of school, or those navigating complex educational transitions.”
