Help for Heroes is the leading Armed Forces and veterans’ charity in the UK. We support members of the Armed Forces community to live well after service. Our services help people to manage their physical and mental health, as well as their welfare and social needs.

We champion the needs of the Armed Forces community to government, other decision makers and society, to accelerate change and give people the future they deserve.

We now have an incredible opportunity for a Non – Executive Director to join our Help For Heroes Trading Ltd team on a voluntary basis.

Help For Heroes Trading Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Charity. It supports Help for Heroes by returning its profits from the sale of branded merchandise and licensed products through its own ecommerce website and selected retail partners.

Help for Heroes Trading is made up of a small team and its annual revenue is the region of £2M. We are looking for an individual who can bring their expertise and knowledge in ecommerce and retail to support the evolution of our Trading function.

There are three broad areas of opportunity; improving the value of ecommerce sales online, establishing drop ship relationships with other online retailers and to identify and exploit brand licensing opportunities.

We are looking for someone who can provide strategic and operational ecommerce advice and guidance, along with an opportunity to opening up our networks and partnership opportunities

This is a voluntary appointment but are looking for someone to support us approximately one to two days per month.

Job Purpose

You will bring an external, independent perspective to the Board, assist with strategy, help develop the business and ensure that the risks are suitably managed. You will challenge and advise the Executive Directors and broader team to reach balanced, commercial judgements and identify & exploit commercial opportunities.

Main Responsibilities

• Bring an external, independent perspective and advise the Board accordingly
• Adding value to the business through commercial expertise
• Assist in setting and revising strategy and objectives
• Adding value by identifying, assessing and introducing partnership opportunities through relevant networks and connections
• Support & challenge Executive Directors and team members on their decision making
• Analyse the performance of management against the objectives and values of the Charity
• Advise on risk management

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Strategic management or business development role preferably in a multi-channel with strong brand identity
• Is or has been Director of an SME which has undergone sustained growth (Executive or Non-Executive)
• Hands on practical experience for running an ecommerce business
