Help for Heroes – Senior Public Affairs & Policy Manager

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

At Help for Heroes, we believe those who serve our country deserve support when they are wounded. Every day, men and women have to leave their career in the Armed Forces as a result of physical or psychological wounds; their lives changed forever. We help them, and those still serving, to recover and get on with their lives.

And who are we you’re wondering? We are experts and beginners. Generalists and specialists. Ordinary people with an extraordinary passion towards making a positive change to the lives of our veterans (and having fun while doing it).

As One Team we share a philosophy – I.C.A.R.E. It’s the way we walk and talk, the way we interact with others and how we approach everything we do. We are:

Innovative – Collaborative – Authentic – Resourceful – Energetic.

We have an incredible opportunity for a Senior Public Affairs & Policy Manager to join our team. Please see below for more information on what just might be your future role.

About You

Are you looking for that next step in your public affairs career? One where you can develop and manage a much loved, national brand’s public affairs strategy and policy direction?

Are you adept at navigating parliament? Building relationships and owning key political and policy projects internally and externally?

Does keeping an eye on external affairs to jump on opportunities to push our campaigning and policy asks intrigue you?

If all that jumps off the page, you are an experience political operator, whether that’s policy or public affairs based, then this role could be for you.

About the Role

You’ll be working with another Senior Public Affairs & Policy Manager to develop the Charity’s political asks and campaign themes, driving our change agenda with key political stakeholders, from government and parliament through to the MoD and fellow military charities, and building powerful stakeholder relationships.

Though our core focus is on addressing issues affecting wounded, injured and sick Veterans, Serving Personnel and their families, this encompasses a broad remit – from defence, work & pensions, through to sport and disability issues.

Whilst this is a specialist public affairs role, you’ll be working closely with the communications, marketing, and brand teams to ensure policy is at the heart of our significant campaigns and brand activity.

About the Team

We’re a team of 10, spanning the full spectrum of communications and public affairs, including regional & national comms, PR, corporate reputation, talent and public affairs.

A team that strives and succeeds in regularly cutting through onto leading and flagship broadcast shows. Our ambition is to bring our policy asks and campaigning agenda onto such platforms.

We also love to talk about, and learn from, other brands, whether that’s sharing awesome (and awful) campaigns, stunts and general creativity, or bringing in fellow PRs and policy wonks from other brands to us about their successes.

Geographically we are spread across the entire UK, from London to Plymouth, Glasgow to Middlesbrough. So long as you are willing to travel when needed and have good wifi, we genuinely welcome applicants from anywhere in the country.
