About the Role

We are looking to recruit 12 Ex Service Personnel (Armed Forces), to become part of Lancashire County Councils Mentoring in Schools programme for secondary schools in Lancashire. Starting in September 2017 to August 2018.

These roles are full time positions (Term Time Only). Please be advised that the salary is pro-rata due to term time working and is based on LCC Pay Spine Grade 5 SCP 17 (£14,769.72pro-rata pa).

Placements will be in Secondary Schools across Lancashire and in particular include Ribble Valley, Preston, Burnley, Lancaster, Poulton le Fylde, Ormskirk, Skelmersdale, etc.

This is a training opportunity, comprising of training combined with experience gained whilst on placement in school. The focus of the Mentor programme is to support young people in secondary school years 9 – 11 to improve their progression, inclusion and attendance and develop skills which will create more opportunities.

Successful applicants will undertake the role of mentor to work with young people within secondary schools on a one to one basis, inspiring, motivating and supporting them to make the best of their education and maximise their potential. In parallel to employment, specialist training will be provided undertaking a training programme to become a fully trained mentor. Specific specialist training will include: ILM Mentoring for Young Learners (level 3), Award in Education and Training (Level 3), Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity Training.
