Maldon Mud Race 2025: Running for Blesma

Eight brave runners took part in the 2025 Maldon Mud Race, showing their support for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.

The annual race, held on Sunday 4 May, sees competitors dash across a 400-metre stretch of the River Blackwater’s muddy bed. The race can only take place at low tide, when the river is shallow enough to allow participants to run safely through the water to the opposite bank and back again.

The event, which attracts 300 participants and 15,000 spectators each year, is known for its muddy, challenging conditions and festive atmosphere.

Unfortunately, strong winds made it impossible for Blesma to set up its own gazebo, but thanks to the Army Benevolent Fund, the team was able to share a gazebo and half a table, ensuring they could still connect with supporters and raise awareness for injured veterans.
