We are Calvert Devon.
A gold-standard outdoor activity centre where adventure has no limits!
Open to all and specialising in accessible activities for all abilities, we make the impossible possible. We pride ourselves on providing a positive and safe environment where guests can challenge themselves in numerous ways by taking part in an exclusive range of accessible adventurous activities. Situated at the edge of Wistlandpound Reservoir, among beautiful pine forests and rippling streams, our fully accessible centre offers high-quality facilities and professionally adaptive accommodation, all nestled within the rolling hills of Devon’s Exmoor National Park.
Calvert Devon supports members of the Armed Forces Community by providing accessible, confidence-building adventure experiences for serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families, particularly where disability, injury, illness or additional support needs are present.
As a gold standard accessible activity centre, we specialise in removing barriers to participation. Our expert instructors, specialist equipment and fully accessible accommodation ensure that everyone can take part safely and meaningfully, regardless of physical, sensory, learning or mental health needs. This includes individuals living with service-related injuries, long-term conditions, trauma or the wider impacts of military life.
Our breaks and activity sessions offer space to reconnect, reset and rebuild confidence. For individuals, this can mean rediscovering independence, resilience and self-belief through challenge and achievement. For families, it creates shared experiences where no one is left on the sidelines, helping to strengthen relationships and reduce isolation.
We recognise that financial pressure can be a barrier, particularly for veterans and families adjusting to life after service. As a charity, we subsidise our breaks and offer bursary support where needed, helping ensure access to life-enhancing experiences is based on need, not income.
Our supportive, inclusive environment allows guests to feel understood, welcomed and valued. Many people tell us their time at Calvert Devon is a turning point, giving them renewed confidence, stronger social connections and the motivation to carry positive change back into everyday life.
We are proud to be part of a sector that puts people first and understands the lifelong impact of service, not just on individuals but on families and communities too.
What inspires us most is the way organisations across the sector respond to complex and often unseen challenges with care, creativity and determination. From physical injury and long-term health conditions to mental health support, transition into civilian life and family support, the sector continually adapts to meet people where they are, not where systems expect them to be.
We are especially proud of the sector’s commitment to empowerment rather than limitation. There is a collective belief that with the right support, people can rediscover confidence, independence and purpose. This aligns closely with our own approach, using challenge, adventure and shared experience to help people reconnect with what they are capable of.
Finally, we are proud to work alongside organisations that value dignity, respect and long-term impact. Seeing individuals and families grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships and carry that positive change back into everyday life is a powerful reminder of why this work matters. Being part of a sector that makes such meaningful, lasting difference is something we are genuinely proud of.
Being a Member of Cobseo strengthens our ability to support the Armed Forces Community by connecting us with a trusted network of organisations working towards shared goals. It provides a platform for collaboration, learning and joined-up thinking, helping ensure that support is effective, coordinated and centred on real need.
Through Cobseo, we are better able to understand the wider landscape of support available to serving personnel, veterans and their families. This allows us to work more collaboratively with other charities, signpost appropriately, and ensure individuals and families receive the right support at the right time, rather than navigating services alone.
Cobseo’s engagement with Government, local authorities and key partners also helps amplify the voice of the sector. Being part of this collective representation ensures that the experiences of our guests, particularly those living with disability, injury or long-term health conditions, help inform wider conversations and policy decisions.
Most importantly, Cobseo reinforces shared standards, values and good practice across the sector. It supports us to continuously reflect, learn and improve, so we can deliver high-quality, inclusive experiences that have lasting impact. Being part of Cobseo helps us do our work better, together.
