Meet Cobseo’s Members: Introducing Help 4 Homeless Veterans

Tell us about your organisation…

H4HV operates in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire providing emergency assistance in the form of emergency hotel accommodation and grants towards first month’s rent to move forward.

How does your organisation support the Armed Forces Community?

We work within local Armed Forces Covenant Groups and Breakfast Clubs providing support as necessary.  We have a therapy farm partner for group visits and for two winters disbursed winter fuel grants and food help.

What makes you proud of the work in the sector?

We are a tiny regional charity has supported 1100 Veterans since 2010. We are currently working with South Yorkshire Mayor four council leaders; local MP, the Rt Hon John Healey, Secretary of State for Defence; and Efficiency North in Sheffield to purchase a house to use as a hostel for homeless Veterans in South Yorkshire.

We have been recognised for our work with two Royal Awards including The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) in 2020. A number of our Trustees have also been awarded individual High Sheriff community service awards. Our CEO, Steve Bentham-Bates has been shortlisted by the English Veterans Awards for its Lifetime Achievement Award.

How does being a Member of Cobseo help you to do your work?

It is reassuring to have top cover that keeps us updated on changes effecting the Veterans’ charity world. It is also a hall mark that we can share with potential grant makers to demonstrate our suitability to provide help to Veterans.
