Meet Cobseo’s Members – introducing Walking With The Wounded

Tell us about your organisation…

Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) is a national Armed Forces charity that delivers life-changing support to veterans and their families who face the greatest challenges after leaving the military. Founded as a young, agile organisation, WWTW has grown to become a trusted partner across the UK, embedded in local communities and working alongside the NHS and other charities to provide integrated care.

We exist to help those who have served—and their loved ones—navigate the complex journey back to or during civilian life. For many, this transition is smooth, but for a significant minority, it can lead to poor wellbeing, unemployment, and social isolation. WWTW focuses on those who have fallen furthest, delivering tailored programmes in mental health, employment, and care coordination to restore independence and reignite a sense of purpose.

How does your organisation support the Armed Forces Community?

Walking With The Wounded supports ex-service personnel and their families who face the greatest challenges after leaving the Armed Forces. We focus on :

Mental Health: Our Head Start programme provides 1-to-1 therapy for veterans with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, delivered by accredited therapists and integrated with NHS services such as Op COURAGE.

Employment: We deliver personalised employment support using the Individual Placement & Support (IPS) model, embedding advisors in local communities and supporting NHS veteran mental health teams. WWTW is the only UK military charity to have reached IPS Centre of Excellence status and is a gold Institute of Employability Professionals ( IEP ) Network holder.

Care Coordination: For veterans with complex needs, we provide dedicated care coordinators who help navigate housing, debt, benefits, and social inclusion, working alongside local partners to ensure holistic support and we sit within clinical MDTs in partnership with OP Courage across England.

We deliver these services through collaboration with the NHS and community organisations, ensuring veterans receive joined-up care. Our approach is tailored, evidence-based, and proven to have a lasting impact—helping veterans regain independence, purpose, and stability.

What makes you proud of the work in the sector?

Walking With The Wounded is proud to stand at the forefront of veteran support in the UK. Every day, we transform lives by helping those who have served—and their families—overcome the toughest challenges of transition or when things go wrong. We deliver proven mental health therapy, specialist employment support, and transitional wraparound care coordination, ensuring that no veteran is left behind.

Our programmes are independently reviewed and shown to have lasting impact, with our employment model three times more effective than the nearest comparator. We are the only UK military charity that reached IPS Centre of Excellence status, and we work hand-in-hand with the NHS through Op COURAGE to provide integrated care.

In 2024 alone, we generated £29 million in social value, equating to £5.58 for every £1 invested—a testament to the efficiency and impact of our work. Beyond numbers, our success is measured in restored confidence, rebuilt families, and renewed purpose.

We are proud because we walk side by side with veterans, not for them, empowering veterans to reclaim their independence and thrive in civilian life. Together with our partners and supporters, we are changing lives—and that is something to be proud of.
