Meet Tim Stockings, CEO – Haig Housing

Tell us more about your organisation…

Haig Housing Trust was set up after WWI to honour Field Marshall Haig, who spent the last years of his life working on behalf of veterans. The Prince of Wales and members of the Royal Family were deeply involved. That link continues today with our Patron, HRH The Princess Royal. We celebrate our centenary in 2028.

We home more than 4, 000 people across the UK. As a general needs housing provider, we mostly help families. We do not specialise in supported housing, although we work closely with colleagues in Cobseo and beyond to help those who do. That avoids duplication and ensures we deliver what we do best. We have lovely communities with large communal spaces and offer all our properties at a discounted rent.

Many of our beneficiaries have been with us for many years.

How does being a member of Cobseo enhance the support that your organisation is able to provide?

Housing is a complex issue and need can arise at any stage of life. By being part of Cobseo we help more veterans find a solution to their problems: health, housing, job seeking or financial assistance, as well as access to services that we can signpost. It’s about collaboration to grow our impact.

How does being a part of the Cobseo Executive Committee support your organisation?

It works both ways. We learn a huge amount from executive discussions and briefing sessions: listening to others helps us to plan and gives us new ideas; and it’s a very collegiate team – we’re stronger together. In return we help others by sharing specialist knowledge, insights and skills.

What makes you proud of the work in the sector?

The focus on delivering for veterans.
