Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, is a charity with a proud history and a deeply personal mission. We support veterans who have lost limbs or the use of limbs, helping them live independent and fulfilling lives. What makes Blesma unique is our member-led approach—our beneficiaries are at the heart of everything we do, shaping our services and governance.
As Chief Executive, I’m constantly inspired by the resilience and determination of our members, and by the dedication of our staff and volunteers who walk alongside them every step of the way.
One of our members recently said:
“Blesma doesn’t just support you—it understands you. It’s the only place where I’ve felt truly seen, not just as a veteran, but as a person rebuilding life on new terms.”
This quote captures the essence of what we strive for: dignity, independence, and lifelong support.
Being part of the Executive Committee gives Blesma a seat at the table where strategic decisions are made for the wider sector. It allows us to raise the voice of our members, advocate for their specific needs, and contribute to shaping policies that affect the entire Armed Forces community. Personally, I value the opportunity to collaborate with peers who share a commitment to service and impact.
Cobseo membership strengthens our ability to deliver holistic support. It connects us with a network of trusted organisations, enabling us to refer members to specialist services beyond our remit. It also opens doors to joint initiatives—such as our work with Help for Heroes on the Veterans Mobility Fund—that amplify our reach and effectiveness. The shared knowledge and resources within Cobseo are invaluable.
I’m proud of the compassion, innovation, and integrity that define our sector. We are united by a common purpose: to serve those who have served and their families. Whether it’s through advocacy, direct support, or collaborative projects, the sector consistently rises to meet complex challenges with humanity and resolve. At Blesma, I see that spirit every day— in the stories of our members, in the commitment of our team, and in the partnerships that make our work possible.
