After 190 miles and 24 stages, Mike and Sandra have successfully completed their Coast-to-Coast walk across England in support of Blesma.
Mike, who lost his leg after an accident, undertook the challenge on crutches to raise funds so that other veterans living with life-changing injuries can get the support they need. The 64-year-old above-knee amputee began his journey in April, setting off from St Bees on the Cumbrian coast, with the goal of completing the iconic 193-mile route through the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales before reaching Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire.
“I will be doing it in stages throughout the summer,” said Mike, an Associate Member who served with the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment TA. “I started on 07 April, and the aim is to complete the final section in late August.”
Depending on the terrain, Mike covered between seven and 12 miles per day. He was accompanied throughout the journey by his partner Sandra, who recently completed her term as Mayor of Wigton, Cumbria.
Mike’s determination and community spirit have not only helped him complete this remarkable personal milestone but also raised vital funds for fellow veterans.
