The WRAC Association announces next restoration ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum
The WRAC Association: The Servicewomen’s Charity has announced their latest date for restoring berets and cap badges to those dismissed from the Army under the pre-2000 ‘gay ban’. On Sunday 10 August veterans of the Corps will gather at the WRAC Association plot at the NMA in Staffordshire to welcome nine more ladies back into the Armed Forces family, and will be joined by senior representation from the Army who will give a formal apology to those affected.
The presentations are the latest in a series of successful events organised by the WRAC Association and will take place in front of a welcoming crowd of WRAC veterans. Some of those attending will be former WRAC servicewomen who have already received their presentations. Carol Morgan who received her beret and cap badge in Guildford last October said
“I was overwhelmed by the reception we received from all in the WRAC. I never thought in a million years I’d be welcomed back. It has given me my self-respect back and the feeling I’m worth something. It will remain with me for the rest of my life: once a Lioness always a Lioness.”
WRACA CEO Paula Rogers has been delighted by the response:
“The trust placed in us by these veterans as they return to the family after so many years is something we feel very keenly. It is truly our honour and privilege to support these veterans as they come back to the family they should never have lost. Our NMA event, coming so soon after our presentations at Cardiff demonstrates the importance of this work and we are looking forward to welcoming these ladies to become active members of our Association.”
