National Lottery Community Fund awards Combat Stress funding to further support veterans in Northern Ireland

Combat Stress has been awarded £371,643 by the National Lottery Community Fund to provide its sector leading Peer Support Service to veterans in Northern Ireland.

Led by veterans for veterans, the service brings former servicemen and women together to share their experiences of mental health issues and receive support and understanding from others who’ve walked a similar path. Run by veterans who have all received treatment from Combat Stress, it acts as a beacon of hope that recovery is possible.

The grant, spread over three years, will help to ensure that veterans in Northern Ireland, struggling with complex mental health issues, will get the best possible treatment and support.

Chloe Mackay, CEO of Combat Stress, said:

“The Combat Stress Peer Support Service remains a sector leading benchmark for recovery focused Peer Support, combining online and in-person interventions.

“Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, we can continue bringing together former service personnel in Northern Ireland to share their experiences of mental health issues and receive support from others who’ve walked a similar path, to promote and embed lasting recovery.”

Kate Beggs, Northern Ireland Director of The National Lottery Community Fund, said:

“Congratulations to Combat Stress on their £371,643 National Lottery grant. We look forward to seeing the difference this project will make for veterans across Northern Ireland, to reduce isolation, build peer support and aid their mental health recovery.

“Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players we are continuing to deliver on our strategy, ‘It starts with community’, with several programmes open for applications to support those in need.”
