Cobseo Housing Cluster wins the FiMT Working Together Award at the Soldier on Awards

The Cobseo Housing Cluster received the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) Working Together Award at the Soldiering on Awards on Friday 20th April, at a special ceremony at Westminster Bridge Park Plaza.

The Cluster is a combination of 30 veterans’ housing organizations and charities formed to provide veteran specific housing and create an integrated veterans’ housing sector, with clear pathways for ex-Service personnel and their families in housing need to move into permanent homes.

Opening of CESSAC Community Cafe, Colchester

On 31 October 2016, the CESSAC Community Cafe was formally opened in the Community Centre in Fallowfield Road, Colchester by Brigadier Colin Weir, Commander of 16 Air Assault Brigade. The building is the Community Centre for over 850 Service families, largely from his Brigade, the main units of which are: 7th Para RHA, 2 & 3 PARA, 13 Air Assault Support Regt RLC & 16 Close Support Medical Regt.

CESSAC’s 125th and CESSAC House’s 40th Anniversaries’ celebrated

Although CESSAC traces its roots back to its first centre for soldiers in Aldershot in 1857, 2016 is the 125th anniversary of its incorporation at Companies House. In the 1970’s the charity expanded its objects to include ex-Service personnel. This enabled it to provide seed-funding for its sister organisation, the charitable CESSA Housing Association Ltd (CESSA HA) and this year is also the 40th anniversary of the opening of its first sheltered housing scheme for elderly ex-Service people in Gosport: CESSAC House.

CESSAC Impact Statement

CESSAC has just published its first Impact Statement. Previously, for a number of years there had been a joint Annual Review with its sister sheltered housing association, CESSA HA. The Directors decided it would be better focussed to separate the information for the different beneficiaries, since the serving personnel supported by CESSAC, were unlikely to be thinking ahead to the retirement accommodation provided by CESSA HA.

Appointment of CESSAC Director of Operations

CESSAC is delighted to announce that Mrs Sarah Gittins has accepted the position as its part-time Director of Operations, responsible for all the charity’s amenity centres across UK, Cyprus, Germany & the Falklands.

Before joining CESSAC in May 2016, Sarah had worked for the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS – several of you will know of the related WRVS, which has worked closely with the army for some years). Part of RVS’s operation is the provision of charitable cafes & shops in hundreds of UK hospitals with a collective turnover of over £47M. She spent her last 5 years progressing from RVS’s Head of Operations – South & South West, through Head of Retail Services to Head of Transformation.
