OA Launches Hon Reps Roadshow

Some of the OA’s network of volunteers attended the first in a series of roadshows in London.

The Honorary Representatives (Hon Reps) provide a crucial link with beneficiaries. They visit applicants in their home to understand their situation, across the UK and overseas. The information is then passed to the Benevolence Team in London, which assesses their needs and organises the support required.

How Jaguar Land Rover Supports Veterans

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has a long history of supporting the British Military, and is committed to helping ex-Service personnel transition into successful civilian careers.

The car manufacturer signed the British Armed Forces Military Covenant in 2014, and was official partner of the first Invictus Games in London and subsequent events in Orlando (2016) and Toronto (2017).

JLR works with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to provide insight days and work experience opportunities for Service personnel.

Accounts monitoring: Reporting of matters of material significance by auditors

The Commission reports on its accounts monitoring reviews to make charities more transparent and accountable, help trustees understand the risks charities face and improve reporting standards.
Auditors have an important role and their reports of matters of material significance inform the Charity Commission’s regulation of the charity sector and enable them to engage more promptly with charities in difficulty. In the six months to 31 October 2017, the auditors of 114 charities gave audit opinions containing information that they were required to report to the Commission as a matter of material significance.

Walking With The Wounded launch sixth annual Cumbrian Challenge!

Walking With The Wounded’s Cumbrian Challenge will support more than 250 ex-servicemen and women who are currently homeless, unemployed or struggling with their mental health, get their lives back on track and back to full health.

The event, now in its 6th year, expects to reach this year’s target of £200,000. This will mean that over 6 years, the Cumbrian Challenge will have raised over £1 million to support the ex-service community.

Reading Force launches partnership with RAF Benevolent Fund at RAF High Wycombe

Reading Force, the shared reading charity for all UK military families, is pleased to announce a pilot to roll out its activity in five RAF Benevolent Fund Ben Clubs, with a special launch at RAF High Wycombe Ben Club this week.

The Reading Force charity encourages military families to share books, whether at home together or separated by deployments or training – in which case books can be read over the phone, Skype or FaceTime.

The Captain James Wadsworth Challenge 2018: Tour De Troops and The Soldiers Run Pass

The Exciting Tour De Troops endurance event is back for 2018, after huge success in 2017. This charity event is the ultimate cycle ride, starting at Lands End and finishing at John O’Groats during a challenging five days. That event is followed by a second one, the Soldiers Run Pass in July. Together they make up the Captain James Wadsworth Challenge 2018.

Both events are open to military staff and civilians alike and are ideal for those looking for a mental and physical challenge which also encourages teamwork and esprit-de-corps between military personnel and civilians.

Antis and Thomas Masters: Announcing a new veteran and Bravehound companion dog partnership

Antis, a Bravehound Companion Dog, named after Antis DM a dog which flew with Czech airman Robert Bozdech during WW2 as part of the Czech Squadron of the RAF, was partnered with veteran Thomas Masters, at a ceremony at RAF Glasgow today, 22nd February. The ceremony was also attended by Bravehound’s new Patron, Author Damien Lewis, and the daughters of the late Robert Bozdech.

The original Antis DM was awarded the Dickin Medal for his service during the Second World War, the story of which was captured in a book, soon to be made into a film, by best-selling author Damien Lewis “War Dog – the dog who could fly”. Damien and the daughters of the late Robert Bozdech travelled to the home of RAF 602 reserves Squadron for the occasion.
