Attendees will have the chance to find out what it’s like to work in a professional services firm with a particular focus on work in our public sector cyber security team.

Throughout the day attendees will have the chance to hear from and meet with veterans who have made the transition from various parts of the military. There will be tips on how to make the transition from service life, plus an opportunity to register interest in an assessment centre for roles in their Cyber team.

Impact of participation in the Invictus Games

Forces in Mind Trust is delighted to award a grant of £183,500 to the Invictus Games Foundation, to explore the long-term impact of sport participation through an examination of the Invictus Games (IG), and to identify best practices to support the long-term well-being of serving and ex-Service personnel who are wounded, injured and sick (WIS).

The four-year project, entitled Beyond the Finish Line, will assess whether the competitors’ well-being improves significantly compared to non-competitors, and measure the duration of the difference.

Stoll’s CEO Ed Tytherleigh takes on the London Marathon

The Chief Executive of Stoll, Ed Tytherleigh, is taking on the London Marathon for the first time this year to raise vital funds for the work of Stoll. Stoll is the leading provider of supported housing for vulnerable and disabled Veterans and helps around 600 Veterans a year.

Ed hopes to raise £10,000 to support Stoll’s work helping and housing homeless Veterans. Stoll offers a unique combination of housing and life-changing support, including employability, addiction support and outreach services.

Oxford woman to run London Marathon for military charity that supports her mother

A woman from Oxford is currently training to compete in this year’s London Marathon for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Sue Cassettari, 55 and from Kidlington, has long been aware of the charity, which provides free lifelong support to veterans living with sight loss. Her mother, Angela, is vision-impaired, as is her friend, Peter. Angela has age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) and glaucoma, meaning she has no sight in one eye and very, very limited sight in the other. Peter also has ARMD and almost no sight.

A secret mission to Oman leads to holidays on the South Coast

For former WRAF nurse Ann Simons of Peterborough, a secret mission to Dhofar in Oman, was so covert she had no idea her service meant she should be awarded a medal.

The honour came to light when Ann finally spilled the beans about the top secret trip to lifelong friend and former RAF colleague Squadron Leader Trishia Welsh, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training) branch. Trishia investigated further and discovered Ann should have been presented with the General Service Medal, with the Dhofar Clasp.

Army Lance Corporal and Magician Takes His Magic Tour to Kabul, Giving A Morale Boost to Those Serving in Afghanistan

Forces Live Events (CSE), experts in the organisation of bespoke live entertainment events for the Armed Forces, have just returned from a magical trip to Afghanistan with Lance Corporal Richard Jones – the first and only magician to ever win Britain’s Got Talent.

Supported by fellow magician, Daniel Boyles, Richard toured his magic show around various bases in Kabul.

UK Armed Forces Day Gala Dinner Charity Partner Announced

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is delighted to be announced as the Charity Partner of the Armed Forces Day Gala Dinner held by Conwy County Borough Council at Venue Cymru on Friday 29 June 2018.

SSAFA will be working with the council to support the Gala Dinner as well as other activities taking place in Conwy around Armed Forces Day.

This year, the National Armed Forces Day event will be held in Llandudno in Conwy County on Saturday 30 June 2018. The events will be a fantastic focal point for the UK to come together to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifice of those that serve.

Glasgow’s Helping Heroes celebrate new location

Glasgow’s Helping Heroes held an Open Day to celebrate its new offices at The Pearce Institute on Tuesday 13 February. Following the successful event, attendee MSP Annie Wells, who lodged a Parliamentary Motion about the service.

Glasgow’s Helping Heroes is a partnership between SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and Glasgow City Council, to support the serving community, veterans and their families. ‘The team offer holistic help and advice on issues such as housing, employment and training, dealing with debt or financial issues as well as assistance relating to health problems.
