The judges have deliberated on 22nd November to decide upon the shortlist of this years Soldiering On Awards Finalists. In recognition of where the Aged Veterans fund originates from we are honoured to have the national Chairman of British Nuclear Test Veterans Association to give a talk on the Christmas Island nuclear bomb tests in 1950’s and 60’s and on their on-going support to the Veterans who were affected by the tests.

Read moreRNAS 1710 recently hosted two veterans and the Chairman of the Spirit of Normandy Trust at Southwick House the Allied Headquarters for the D Day Landings. Patrick Thomas and Wally Beall were able to visit the famous map room where the D Day map wall still portrays the situation at H Hour on D Day. They were both looked after very well my the Royal Navy and the Royal Military Police, who are now based at Southwick Park.
Read moreA blind veteran from Nottinghamshire has marched at the Cenotaph in London this Remembrance Sunday (12/11) with the charity Blind Veterans UK.
Andy Stowe, 61 and from Mansfield, was supported to do this by Specsavers stores including Crystal Peaks, which raised over £100. The money went towards sending blind veterans, including Andy, to march.
Andy marched with more than 100 other blind veterans supported by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

The Prince of Wales laid a poppy wreath on behalf of the Queen, who watched for the first time from a Foreign Office balcony. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cornwall. The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry also attended, alongside other members of the Royal Family.
Across the UK a two-minute silence was held, and poppy wreaths were laid at war memorials to remember those who died in conflict.

David Scott, 93 and from Tunbridge Wells, marched with more than 100 other blind veterans supported by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.
David says: “It was a splendid day, truly splendid. There was a frisson of excitement in the air which only grew as we began moving.
