The Forces in Mind Trust Sector Briefing Events – York and Nottingham

The Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has held two briefing events, the first in York on Thursday 16th and the second in Nottingham on Friday 17th November, which were attended by over 80 people. Attendees came from a wide range of sectors including the Armed Forces Community and Armed Forces charities as well as other key stakeholders and interested parties who work to support ex-Service personnel and their families.

The events, which were the last in a series of regional briefings in the existing format, were led by Chief Executive of FiMT, Air Vice-Marshal Ray Lock CBE, and supported by his executive team.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity supports Army Widows Association Respite Weekend

Our charity has awarded the Army Widows’ Association a £24,000 grant. This will go towards supporting their AGM Respite Weekends and continuing the excellent work they do. The Army Widows’ Association was formed in 2004 and offers comfort, support, and friendship to the widows and widowers of service men and women.

All the members of the Army Widows’ Association have lost their husbands, wives, or partners, in varying circumstances, and are given support and help in whichever terms they need.

Britain’s most seriously injured Veterans to be supported by Help for Heroes after Government awards £1.5 million Libor grant

In the last-ever tranche of Libor grants, Help for Heroes has been awarded £1.5 million to improve the level of care given to Britain’s most severely wounded and injured Veterans who experience the greatest challenges and highest levels of social exclusion.

Many have complex injuries including multiple limb loss, severe brain injuries and serious mental health conditions which means they will require specialist support through a complex care pathway for the remainder of their lives.

Plans unveiled for Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company to employ Scottish veterans

Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company, the largest employment development specifically for Scottish veterans in decades, will open at veterans’ charity Erskine’s headquarters next June, it was announced today.

Renfrewshire-based social enterprise SBMC is projected to help more than 40 of the country’s brave ex-servicemen and women every year through direct, flexible employment – whilst also offering vital tailored wrap-around welfare support and accommodation in collaboration with Erskine.

Researching career paths is important, but it is vital to act on your findings.

First ask yourself, what did you like about being in the Armed Forces? What skills did you gain and want to continue using? Identifying your interests and skills will help to give your job search direction. It’s easy to feel like there is choice overload, but knowing what you want from your new career will help you select the right roles and organisations.
