BSI Resettlement Awards – deadline for entries 15th September

The BSI Resettlement Awards, in association with Pathfinder Magazine, exist to celebrate the achievements of Service Leavers who have successfully progressed through the transition from life in the Armed Forces to life as a civilian and to acknowledge the efforts of organisations offering support to the Service Leaver during this transition.

The Awards will be presented to the winners at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester on October 31st, 2017.

Been involved in seafaring? Join a telephone group with other Seafarers

“It’s free and fun, just like chatting in the mess, and you can do it from the comfort of your home.”

Seafarers Link is celebrating its tenth anniversary with an ambitious target of creating an additional 10 telephone friendship groups for former Seafarers and dependants.

The project hosts free conference calls for former seafarers and their families in a partnership between Community Network and both SFUK and MN Fund. It was devised in response to recommendations in a major report on Seafarers welfare, Supporting Seafarers and Their Families: The Challenges for the Future, commissioned by Maritime Charities Group in 2007.

Summer of support for RAF families

From RAF Benson to RAF Wyton, the RAF Benevolent Fund has spent almost £50,000 in its second year of support for station families’ days.

The annual events are a much-loved date on the calendar when serving personnel are given the opportunity to share their working life with their loved ones. Families are able to relax and recuperate within their own community, without the pressure of operations, which is particularly important on stations where personnel are deployed short notice.

The RAF Benevolent Fund made grants to 34 stations, awarding a total of £47,000 to support the events.

Prince Harry’s visit to the ‘Veterans Village’ on Monday 4th September 2017

Walking With The Wounded welcomed Expedition Patron, Prince Harry, back to Canada Street in Manchester to see what had been achieved since the major DIY SOS transformation took place in 2015.

The ‘Veterans Village’ – once a dilapidated street on the outskirts of Manchester, is now home to some ex-servicemen and women who initially struggled with the transition back into civvy-live after leaving the Armed Forces.

Give Us Time collaborates with DMRC at Headley Court.

We are excited to announce that we have teamed up with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court to send five military families to the beautiful Azure Resort in Malta in October 2017.

“The five families are all patients from the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Headley Court, which aims to return all those service personnel injured or seriously ill to full fitness. DMRC is a nationally recognised centre of excellence that provides rehabilitation for more complex injuries, including amputee and neurological patients.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans getting ready for ‘the City’s Finest Banquet’

The UK’s leading business security and resilience membership network, CSARN (City Security and Resilience Networks), is hosting a charity banquet to raise money for four charities, including Blesma.

The black-tie event is being held at the Honorable Artillery Company, whose stunning grounds are in the heart of London, on Thursday 21 September starting at 6.15pm.

The banquet itself has been created by renowned Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin of Ormer Jersey and Ormer Mayfair. Entertainment will be provided by Kev Orkian – one of the UK’s finest entertainers and an acclaimed comedy pianist.

Royal Naval Association honours modern naval heroes at Biennial Cenotaph Parade – Sunday 10 Sept

Three Modern naval heroes will be honoured on Sunday 10 September at the Naval Associations’ Biennial Parade at the Cenotaph by the dedication of 3 wheelchair accessible minibuses provided by the LIBOR fund. Witnessed by 500 naval veterans, a naval volunteer band, 70 sailors in the final stages of their professional training, sea cadets and 60 standards. The buses will be used to assist socially isolated veterans get out and about, including going to the pub!
