The Lady Haig Poppy Factory is a wholly owned subsidiary of Poppyscotland and both organisations have been part of The Royal British Legion group of charities since 2011.The Poppy Factory has a workforce of 40 ex-Servicemen and women, the majority of whom are disabled. Whilst a commercial organisation, it is also a charity that provides dignity through work. Many of the workforce have been employed  for many years and there is a palpable feeling of the military about the place that provides a comfortable and secure atmosphere, for both visitors and workers alike. The factory manufactures all poppies for the Scottish Poppy Appeal as well as making and selling Poppy Wreaths commercially.

We are seeking to recruit an Accountant whose primary responsibilities will be the production of all financial outputs including annual statutory financial report, monthly management accounts, budgets, sales, profits and cash flow forecasts. You will be expected to manage the cash flow to ensure adequate funds are available for working capital, prepare all statutory returns including VAT Returns as well as being responsible for Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger, Credit Control, Cash Books and Payroll.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a similar role responsible for the finance function within a business or charity
  • A formal accounting qualification or part qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) as well as professional experience
  • Experience of using computerised accounts systems along with advanced level excel skills
  • Experience of preparing statutory annual financial report and annual budgets
  • Experience of stock and resource management
  • Experience of processing Payroll
  • A positive and cooperative attitude
  • Good organisational skills adaptable and flexible to varying workloads
  • Reliable, responsible, and dependable
  • A willingness to work independently
  • Effective communicator with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial audiences effectively
  • Empathy for the work of the charity
