Poppyscotland is at the forefront of delivery of support to our Armed Forces community across Scotland.  We reach out to those who have served, those still serving, and their families at times of crisis and need by offering vital, practical advice, assistance and funding.

Our work centres around seven key areas: tailored support and funding, advice, employment, mobility, respite, housing and mental health.  While much of this work is delivered directly collaboration with other specialist organisations, for the benefit of Scotland’s Armed Forces community, is at the heart of Poppyscotland’s approach.  This ensures services are provided in the most effective and efficient manner.

We are looking for a temporary Deputy Head of Welfare Services who will be responsible for overseeing the operational delivery and development of Poppyscotland’s Grants, Employment and Break services, whilst the current Deputy Head is on secondment.

Main responsibilities include

  • Delivering the grants, employment and break programmes whilst ensuring compliance with delegated financial authority and organisational procedures
  • Managing the Grants, Employment and Break Away Coordinators and indirectly manage the Welfare Services Administrator.
  • Producing and managing project budgets in line with financial policies and procedures
  • Overseeing the delivery of monthly performance measurements.
  • Ensure that all administrative processes and IT systems are compliant (e.g GDPR) understood and used efficiently
  • To deputise for Head of Welfare Services.  This will include liaison with Scottish Members of Parliament, Senior Government Officials, senior representatives in the Third Sector and the Armed Forces.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Good standard of education to Higher level or equivalent
  • Proven management experience and leadership skills
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to create innovative and persuasive presentations to a range of audiences.
  • Effective relationship building skills including being self-aware and able to instill confidence in others
  • Ability to self-start and initiate activity and see it through to a successful conclusion
  • Excellent financial management skills with the ability to oversee day to day budgets
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills, including ability to deliver multiple priorities.
  • Ability to focus on impact and deliver results in a team environment and contribute positively as part of a team.
  • Good administrative skills including proficient use of MS Office functions and databases.
