The RAF Association has a clear objective: to help sustain a resilient and empowered RAF community, including serving personnel, RAF veterans and their families. Through our sector leading services, we offer friendship to the isolated and lonely, sheltered housing for those who want to remain proudly independent and childcare to serving personnel on RAF stations. What to expect from the role
The Senior PR Officer (SPO) will be responsible for delivering targeted, impactful media coverage that highlights the work of the Association, increases understanding and awareness of its activities, and grows and protects its reputation. The SPO will be responsible for developing and maintaining a strong network of contacts within the media, delivering effective PR activity that aligns with strategic priorities whilst also contributing to the running of an effective press office.
How you can make a difference
With significant experience in PR or journalism, you will be able to identify and maximise media opportunities to increase understanding and awareness of the RAF Association along with writing, coordinating and issuing media releases, briefing materials and features. Working collaboratively with other colleagues, you will help to develop stories relevant for our internal and external channels as well as organising and managing press visits and photo calls as required across projects. Ideally you will have experience in delivering media training as you will need to ensure spokespeople are media ready providing internal media training, building confidence and testing their skills.
About You
A degree in PR or journalism or substantial equivalent experience is an essential requirement for this role. You will have a thorough knowledge of media law, other applicable legislation and ethical codes of practice.
With a proven track record of gaining coverage in and working with all forms of national and regional media (press/television/radio/publications etc) you will have the ability to impart key messages clearly, concisely and convincingly. Experience of acting as a spokesperson is highly desirable. You will share an ‘on call’ duty Press Officer role at evenings and weekends. A creative individual with the ability to take high quality photographs along with filming and editing video content will thrive in this role.
