About us

For over 90 years, the RAF Association have championed a simple belief – that no member of the RAF community should ever be left without the help that they need. The RAF Association is one of the leading providers of welfare assistance to the RAF community.  We do this by developing and offering a range of welfare and wellbeing services that aim to provide amazing support to those who most need it. Our services are delivered by our team of fantastic employees, together with a large network of volunteers. Last year, we supported over 85,500 members of the RAF community who required practical, emotional or financial assistance. For the sake of everyone who needs our help, we continue to evolve and innovate to meet new challenges and remain at the leading edge of service provision. We champion the best interests of the RAF community and work together to make sure no one is ever left behind.

About the role

This is a newly created role within a highly talented expanding team. The Senior Technical Project Manager (STPM) will be integral to holding the reins to ensure that all our specialised technical projects are supported, tracked and delivered within defined parameters.  The STPM will own the central IT delivery programme and will take the lead on activities such as tracking, assurance and quality control, information management and financial risk.

The STPM will have an extensive track record of working in a technical project management role along with strong experience within a CRM business analyst role.  This is a ‘hands on’ role where the post holder will support the definition of project business cases (scope, goals, deliverables, resource requirements, milestones etc) and provide strategic overview to the Head of CRM along with a number of key stakeholders, some with limited IT project understanding.  We anticipate that the STPM will bring a fresh pair of eyes to the team and identify and promote areas of improvement surrounding IT projects and also contribute to the IT Projects Standard Guide to define best practice for our CRM architects and developers. Whilst there is no direct people management, the STPM will be confident to hold their own when communicating with stakeholders across the Association to impart knowledge and holding colleagues to account to achieve delivery goals.

Our CRM delivery team are currently working on bespoke Welfare projects to streamline our volunteer welfare tools and introduce new online tools in our volunteer community portal. This is a vital welfare piece to support the RAF community.

About you

A Batchelor’s degree in Business or IT Management would be highly desirable however a project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APMG equivalent is a prerequisite. A demonstrable detailed background of Salesforce is essential along with experience in technical authoring, data modelling and data mining techniques. If you have strong observational and analytical thinking ability, effective in unifying and creating teams of people within a project environment and able to quickly understand organisational culture and challenges then this could be great fit for both you and the Association.

We are looking for a competent professional who is a self-starter, is eager and confident to work independently and can demonstrate initiative and accountability to passionately deliver our technical projects in a responsive way.  Whilst knowledge of the Charity sector is an advantage, it is not a pre-requisite.  Our key goal is to see you succeed in this role and to do this, you will need to be able to apply your project management and technical knowledge to ultimately keep the wheels on the track when it comes to co-ordinating all project activity.

If you’re a people person, highly organised, a great communicator and manager of relationships at all levels and have a desire to be involved in something with meaningful purpose, we’d love to hear from you.
