About Us
The Royal Air Force Families Federation (RAFFF) exists to improve the quality of life for the RAF family around the world – at work or at home. We provide an independent voice for Serving personnel and their families and manage a confidential service that relies upon the integrity and professionalism of its staff to deliver a Federation that is both credible and respected by all parties.
About the team
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for the right person with the mixture of senior experience, influencing skills and passion for the role. It offers considerable intellectual challenge, the ability to influence change at a strategic level and a healthy work/life balance. The RAFFF is a skilled, experienced and welcoming team of 13. The position is suitable for agile working and offers a good degree of flexibility, however the post holder should expect to attend the office for two or three days each week and there will be fairly regular (planned) travel throughout the UK – and occasionally overseas. Our current Director has been in the role for six years and has led some exciting changes. She would be happy to have an informal chat about the role – please email her on maria.lyle@raf-ff.org.uk to arrange a discussion, or RAFA Charity Director Rory can also answer questions: rory.oconnor@rafa.org.uk
About You
You might have a background of leadership in the military, or alternatively in the charity or public sector – all those areas experience would be relevant. You must be a confidence and impactful presenter, with the ability to Chair senior meetings when required. An understanding and empathy of the service lifestyle is key, along with the ability to make a strategic case for change to a senior audience, including on a one-to-one basis with government ministers, senior military officers and leaders of public services. You will be working across multiple charities, government departments and public sector organisations, so relevant experience that shows you understand the different cultures of these organisations and can work with them is key. You must be able to work at pace, using significant amounts of evidence to quickly understand essential points, and you will have advanced written influencing skills as well as verbal. A UK driving license is required, as you will be required to occasionally travel to meetings and events for which we will reimburse travel costs.
Why join us?
We are immensely proud of the work we do, and our colleagues share this sense of pride. We offer a wide range of benefits including life insurance, generous holiday entitlement, sick pay, and time off to relax and recharge over the Christmas period.
