Admiral Jellicoe House is a purpose-built 66 bed care home for veterans and spouses of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Portsmouth which opened in June 2022. Our residents and staff enjoy a varied yet familiar way of life to encourage independence and give each day meaning and purpose. The home has a ‘family run’ feel and we have carefully created a supportive, friendly and close knit team, making it a unique and very special place to work.
The RNBT exists to support Royal Navy Ratings and Royal Marines Other Ranks, both serving and served, and their loved ones, through life’s challenges. Established in 1922 under Royal Charter, The Trust continues to provide a lifeline of support: from financial assistance and training opportunities to wellbeing guidance and signposting, as well as accommodation at our Care Homes and Almshouse.
Reporting to the Wellbeing Co-ordinator at the Care Home and working as part of a small, supportive team, the Wellbeing Assistant will play a key role in supporting the residents at the Care Home.
18 hours per week, 3 shifts per week.
Shifts are usually 6 hours per day, approximately 09:00–15:00 or 10:00–16:00.
The Job Role
The Wellbeing Assistant will be required to provide a diverse range of activities for residents both at a group and individual level, based on individual need and capability in liaison with the residents, care staff and relatives.
Wellbeing assistants play a crucial role in care homes, providing companionship and support to residents. They are required to encourage resident engagement with relevant activities.
This role is offered on an initial one-year fixed-term contract as it is to cover maternity leave. There may be the option for this to be extended.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the Activities Co-ordinator to plan and lead activities for our care home residents
- Work alongside Health Care professionals within the home to ensure residents attend activities of interest and their care needs are met within this setting.
- To take a person-centred approach, understanding the resident’s individual needs and catering activities to their interests.
- To complete documentation to a good standard e.g. resident’s social records.
- To promote the welfare, health and safety of residents when on trips.
- To comply with Health and Safety and COSSH Regulations.
- To assist ‘Friends or Volunteers’ where necessary during activities.
- To positively represent Admiral Jellicoe House at formal or social events.
- To assist the wellbeing co-ordinator in updating social and wellbeing care plans.
- To remain flexible and perform any other reasonable duties delegated by management.
