Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund – Casework Manager

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Hybrid Role – London/Community Based
Full time role
Circa £38,000 salary plus competitive benefits

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is the RAF’s leading welfare charity. The Welfare Directorate is responsible for understanding and meeting the social welfare needs of those in the RAF Family, from those currently serving in the RAF and their families through to veterans of all ages. This is achieved through the delivery of a wide range of services, initiatives and programmes which last year helped over 55,000 individuals.

We are seeking an individual to undertake the role of Casework Manager. The Fund’s caseworking team is a fledgling one and we are seeking a candidate not only to provide line management for the team but to assist with the development of this new function and its activities. Caseworkers (known as Welfare Support Executives) are integral to the way the Fund delivers its welfare support. Our caseworkers work with individuals who may have complex and sometimes challenging welfare needs, visiting them in their homes to assess circumstances, making judgements on the support available form both the charity and statutory sources, supporting individuals to access that support and recommending actions to our grant making teams. A candidate with experience of caseworking in a military charity or benevolent fund would be preferred. Experience of the MOSAIC case management system would be advantageous but not essential

The post holder will be expected to distribute work and monitor caseloads across the team, provide oversight and quality assurance of casework, as well as be a point of contact for questions and queries amongst the team. A strong background in social welfare issues is essential.

Our casework team cover the East and South-East of England as well as Central and Eastern Scotland with plans to expand coverage further over the next few years. The post holder will lead on this development. This is a hybrid position, and the post holder should expect to spend some time each week in the Fund’s London office with suitable flexibility to work in the community with their wider team as needed. Any successful candidate for this role will need to be DBS checked.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a social welfare role. Managing the relationship between our remote caseworking team and our office based grant making teams is an important part of this role, therefore the candidate should be able to demonstrate strong people and relationship-building skills, as well as empathy with or understanding of issues affecting the Armed Forces community. Ideally, a successful candidate should be able to demonstrate experience of managing others – either staff or volunteers.

A detailed job profile is available on the Fund’s website www.rafbf.org. To apply, please send your CV together with a covering letter, not longer than three sides, detailing which location you are interested in, why you believe you are suitable for this role and how you meet the person specification to Martin Botting, RAF Benevolent Fund, 67 Portland Place, London W1B 1AR or email HRservices@rafbf.org.uk.

The closing date for applications is Friday 23 September at 09:00am. Please note interviews will aim to take place via Video Conferencing Platform 30th September. Please note that due to the high number of applications expected, only candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified.

A copy of the Fund’s Candidate Privacy Notice can be found on our website.
