The Royal Air Forces Association is the charity that supports the RAF family. From an injured airman fighting to get back on his feet, to a child missing a parent working away from home, to a WWII veteran in need of companionship, the Association is there.
The Director of Membership and Operations will provide strategic leadership to the team, delivering a clear step change in how the Association engages with all members of the RAF family, stakeholders and external partners. The post holder will develop and deliver the strategic plan for member recruitment, retention and engagement, working closely with the Secretary General, Senior Management Team (SMT) and Trustees to define a clear plan to grow the membership and engage with all members of the RAF family to become members and supporters of the Association.
The post holder will lead a multi-disciplinary team creating a high performance culture.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing deep and long-lasting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders from the private, public and third sector to develop multifaceted relationships and drive member engagement.
They will possess a comprehensive understanding of the external environment that the RAF and the Association are operating within, with detailed knowledge of social and economic issues facing members of the RAF family and the various supporting mechanisms and the ability to access them.
The ideal candidate will be a senior RAF Officer (Group Captain or above) with relevant recent RAF service (within the last 5 years), vision and leadership, experience of writing and delivering key business strategy at Board level, an understanding of charity governance, excellent planning and organisation skills, a hands on approach to getting things done, be a strong motivator and a positive, engaged leader of others.
The post is based at our new Headquarters at Braunstone Frith, Leicester, with extensive travel throughout the UK.
