About Us

The RAF Association exists to support the RAF community across a variety of services.  We are a group of Charities with our main body being the RAF Association.  In addition, we have several smaller subsidiary organisations, which are all linked to our strategic priorities to positively impact the lives of serving personnel, veterans and their families.  We are proud to have supported over 81,000 members of the RAF community in the last year with both practical and emotional assistance, despite the many challenges presented to us because of the pandemic.  Our focus for 2021 and beyond is to continue to deliver our existing services, in addition to developing new services that are both sustainable and effective.

About the role 

We are looking for a Group Company Secretary reporting to our Secretary General, as part of our Senior Leadership team and to lead our governance function.  The main purpose of the role being to provide a company secretarial service, supporting Trustees, Committees, and subsidiary Boards and to lead our corporate governance and regulatory projects.  You will drive forward the governance agenda and be integral in acting as an internal conscience to ensure effectiveness and control around operational and regulatory matters with a robust approach to group risk.

What we need from you

You will be an experienced company secretary working at senior level within the not-for-profit sector with an excellent knowledge of charity and company law and governance.  Our key requirements include:

  • Membership of The Corporate Governance Institute – ACG/FGC (formerly ICSA)
  • A sound understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements affecting Registered Providers of social housing.
  • Previous experience as a DPO and detailed understanding of GDPR and its practical implementation.
  • Health & Safety management experience.
  • Good understanding of contract law.
  • Strong leadership relationship skills, managing multiple stakeholders and building confidence.
