BECOME A TRUSTEE OF THE ROYAL NAVY AND ROYAL MARINES CHARITY AND BE THE RNRMC’S TRUSTEE ON THE NAVAL SERVICE SPORTS CHARITY BOARD
The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is the National Charity of the Royal Navy which exists to support sailors, marines and their families for life. The Charity is governed by a board of 16 trustees of which there are currently five serving members of the Naval Service.
The Board is looking for an additional Trustee who is currently serving in the Naval Service and who has a keen interest in sport and good team-working skills. As a Serving Trustee you will bring your military experience and knowledge of sailors and marines to combine with the skill sets of the other Trustees, which range from accountancy to fundraising, banking to industry in order to provide governance and oversight of this multi-million pound fundraising and benevolence organisation.
Additionally, this particular role also attracts a position on the Naval Service Sports Charity (NSSC) Board as the RNRMC representative. This is a subsidiary charity that supports sporting activities of RN and RM personnel through the distribution of grants to Sports Associations, elite athletes and Naval Regional Sports Offices. The NSSC is run by a Board of 8 Trustees, 3 of whom are currently serving members of the Royal Navy and 5 of whom are not MoD employees but collectively have experience of HR, Employment Law and Charity Administration, Finance and Law. It also manages the 96 bed Naval Services Sports Accommodation and employs 5 staff at HMS TEMERAIRE.
Whilst previous Third Sector experience is useful for these roles it is not essential and there are a range of training opportunities to ensure you are properly prepared. As a minimum you will be required to attend four half day board meetings a year for the RNRMC and 3 additional meetings for the NSSC. There is also opportunity to represent the Charity at various events and whilst the role is unpaid your expenses will be reimbursed. Deployments are part of Service life and a period of absence is understood and supported and should not deter you from applying. What is essential is enthusiasm, excellent team working skills and a keen interest in sport.
More information and details of how to apply can be obtained from Lauren Kempton, RNRMC HR Officer, by email to lauren.kempton@rnrmc.org.uk or by calling 023 9387 1520. If you would like to talk more about the role you can contact Mike Burningham, RNRMC Director of Operations, by email to mike.burningham@rnrmc.org.uk or by calling 023 9387 1557; or Gareth Hughes, NSSC Director of Operations, by email to dofops@tnssc.co.uk or NAVYPERS-TEMERAIRNSSCDofOps@mod.uk or by calling 07712 589776.
The closing date for applications is Monday 18 September 2017 with the intention to interview those selected from an initial sift at HMS EXCELLENT sometime between 20 September and 13 October.
