REME Charity

Service Charities Equality Insight Programme (SCEIP)

Delivering change within the Armed Forces

Funded through the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust Transformational Grant Programme, this four-year project aims to support UK military charities to become more inclusive and better equipped to meet the needs of culturally-diverse armed forces communities.

The project will provide innovative tools to enable military charities to recognise the inequalities in their working practices, their decision-making processes, and their programme outcomes, and inspire a more inclusive approach to support programme design, development and provision.

Key project objectives

  • To utilise participatory data-collection tools to collect high quality, inclusive lived experience and perceptions of inequalities in the provision of support across the services sector
  • To establish an evidence base to build better understanding of stakeholder needs (particularly veterans from ethnic and faith minorities) and inspire a more inclusive approach to support programme design, development and provision
  • To co-develop sector-specific toolkits, made available across the sector, to guide and support an evidence-based approach to inclusive working practices and decision-making processes
  • To provide the framework for military charities to sustain evidence-based inclusive practices beyond the project lifetime
  • To establish an impact evaluation framework to measure the impact of SCEIP over time. By identifying indicators of impact (including changes in behaviour and attitudes), the project will enable military charities to monitor and measure their own transformative change as they become more diverse and inclusive.

Project activities

  1. 2026 Equality Insights UK Road Trip

Throughout 2026, we’ll be travelling across the UK to convene leaders, change agents, and key influencers from across the military charity landscape. As strategic decision-makers and change agents military charities play a critical role in shaping the future of inclusive support for our armed forces communities.

You are invited to join us on our 2026 Equality Insights UK Road Trip – a series of connected and cumulative, high-impact, in-person workshops designed to strengthen inclusive practice and inform sector-wide improvement. We’ll be calling at five locations across the UK:

The REME Museum, Lyneham | 20 January 2026

Colwyn Leisure Centre, Colwyn Bay | 16 February 2026

The Milner, York | 24 March 2026

Edinburgh Training and Conference Venue, Edinburgh | 21 April 2026

Royal Hospital Chelsea, London | 23 June 2026

These in-person workshops will provide a focused environment to:

  • Review organisational approaches and assess the effectiveness of current practice.
  • Co-develop a strategic roadmap that enhances cultural awareness and inclusive service delivery.
  • Strengthen cultures of trust, respect, and belonging across teams and service users.
  • Leverage shared insights to guide long-term, evidence-informed decision making.
  • Build an understanding of the value of lived experience, the power of co-development, and the importance of evaluating the impact of your actions.

This programme of events is an opportunity to shape sector-wide progress, collaborate with peers, and lead by example in setting a higher standard of inclusion.

  1. UK Equality Insights Survey for Military Charities

Our national military charities sector survey is designed to build an understanding of how military charities function across the UK to inclusively support a diversifying military community.

Please help drive sustainable, strategic change across the sector and shape the future of inclusive support for our armed forces communities – please complete the survey! It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Our UK Equality Insights Survey is now OPEN! You can access the survey here!

  1. SCEIP Pilot Studies

Over the next three years, we will be working with military charities to run a series of pilot studies. Participant organisations will work with the project team to co-design and evaluate an Equality Insights Toolkit for the sector that will:

  • Guide and support the use of evidence to identify and understand the inequalities in their culture and working environment
  • Assess the impact of their policies, practices, and processes, particularly on minoritised beneficiary groups
  • Co-develop inclusive solutions and actions with measurable outcomes
  • Provide support and guidance to evaluate the impact of their actions and measure change

The Pilot Studies provide an opportunity to shape the future of inclusive support for our armed forces communities.  If you would like to get involved and work with the project team to shape sector-wide progress, taking part in the SCEIP pilot studies, please get in touch. We look forward to working with you!
