SSAFA – Challenge Events Officer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time Challenge Events Officer in the Corporate & Events Fundraising Team at SSAFA, the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity.

About the role

We are seeking a Challenge Events professional who will be responsible for the overall development, and income generation for ‘Team SSAFA’, the umbrella name for our challenge events portfolio. This includes the London Marathon, Ride London 100, Great North Run, London Landmarks Half Marathon and endurance events. In addition, you will be responsible for the coordination of SSAFA’s own bespoke events, such as our annual cycle ride.

Requirements

To carry out this role successfully you will have experience in Challenge Event fundraising, with a track record in maximising income. Proficient financial forecasting and reporting skills are essential, and you must be a ‘team player’.

You will have a thorough understanding and experience of the event fundraising market. You will be required from time to time to help with other fundraising initiatives and to attend events on behalf of the charity.

The responsibilities of this role are wide ranging and diverse, so it is important that you have excellent administration skills, attention to detail and ability to produce and follow efficient processes and procedures.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • to plan and coordinate all challenge events within the calendar, liaising with suppliers and third-party organisers as appropriate;
  • the recruitment and cultivation of challenge event fundraisers; where suitable working with colleagues on maximising their donor journey;
  • building excellent relationships with fundraisers by providing first rate customer service and support – maximising fundraising and awareness opportunities;
  • to work with the Marketing & Communications team to develop a promotional plan for each event to maximise recruitment and exposure;
  • to produce budgetary information on a regular basis, ensure financial targets are met and events are delivered within budget.
